For years, Walt Disney World Annual Passholders could decide on a whim that they wanted to spend the day at a theme park, hop in the car, and simply go. That kind of spontaneity has never fully returned.
Although Disney has loosened its theme park reservation rules considerably since they were first introduced, the reservation system remains a part of being an Annual Passholder in 2026. Many fans have wondered whether Disney might eventually decide the system has outlived its usefulness — especially as it has become increasingly uncommon to see multiple parks completely booked out.
What happened on Saturday, September 26, may have answered that question in a pretty definitive way.
Three Parks Reached Passholder Capacity on One Saturday
September 26 was not an ordinary day on Walt Disney World's Annual Passholder Admission Calendar. For one of the first times in quite a while, Passholder reservations disappeared at several theme parks simultaneously.
EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios reached capacity first. By 10:55 a.m., Magic Kingdom had also filled its available Passholder reservation inventory. Disney's Animal Kingdom was the only park still showing availability through the reservation system.
There were several factors potentially contributing to the unusually high demand. Central Florida received a welcome break from the heat and humidity after a cool front moved through the area. EPCOT is also in the middle of the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, while Disney's Hollywood Studios has newer offerings drawing guests in. Put it all together, and suddenly those reservations Disney rarely seems to run out of became much more important.
For Passholders hoping Disney would eventually eliminate the system altogether, that is probably not the development they were hoping to see.
How the Reservation System Works Today
Disney introduced its theme park reservation system during Walt Disney World's phased reopening in 2020. While the rules have changed substantially since then, reservations never completely disappeared for Annual Passholders.
Today, the system is far less restrictive than it once was. Annual Passholders can generally visit any of Walt Disney World's four theme parks after 2:00 p.m. without making a reservation. The major exception is Magic Kingdom, where Passholders still need reservations on Saturdays and Sundays regardless of arrival time.
