Without any announcement, Universal Studios Hollywood has removed its Express Pass options from at least one major ticket-purchasing route — affecting both its upcoming Halloween Horror Nights event and access to its newest attraction, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift. Here's what's actually happening, and what guests planning a visit should know before they book.

Express Pass Has Disappeared From One Booking Path

Planning for Halloween Horror Nights has always involved a familiar trade-off: pay less and wait in standby lines, or pay considerably more to squeeze extra haunted houses into a single night. At Universal Studios Hollywood, that calculation has suddenly become more complicated.

As of August 5, Halloween Horror Nights Universal Express products were no longer appearing among the available options in the park's primary ticket-selection process. The only premium option still displayed was the R.I.P. Tour — a guided experience that sits above Express in both service level and price.

That disappearance is real enough to affect anyone trying to book right now. What it actually means, however, is far less certain.

Universal Still Advertises HHN Express on Other Pages

Importantly, Universal Studios Hollywood has not announced that HHN Express has been discontinued. In fact, other active pages on Universal's own website still advertise it. The park's live Halloween Horror Nights ticket page continues to tell visitors they can enhance the event with Express access or an R.I.P. Tour. A separate Universal Studios Hollywood vacation-ticket page goes even further, explicitly listing a "Halloween Horror Nights Universal Express Ticket" alongside General Admission, Early Access, day-and-night admission, and the R.I.P. Tour.

A product disappearing from one purchase path can mean several things: inventory may be exhausted for selected dates, sales may be temporarily paused, a website update may be underway, or the ticketing system may simply be misbehaving. It does not, by itself, prove cancellation.

Universal's own ticket terms note that prices and availability vary and that event products may change or become unavailable. The company has not explained the current discrepancy or indicated when the missing Express options might return.

The most accurate read of the situation is a narrow one: HHN Express may not currently appear through one active booking route, but Universal still describes the product as part of its Hollywood lineup.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Raises the Stakes

In another year, a temporarily missing ticket type might amount to little more than an annoying checkout mystery. This year, though, Universal has attached something unusually valuable to its premium HHN products.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is currently carrying guests during technical rehearsals, bringing the long-awaited roller coaster closer to regular operation. Technical rehearsals remain unpredictable — the attraction can open late, close early, or remain unavailable without notice. A recent test run even rolled backward before completing its course, underscoring why rehearsals shouldn't be treated as a dependable operating schedule.

According to Universal's published HHN terms, Express and R.I.P. Tour guests were previously given access to Hollywood Drift from 7 p.m. until 11:30 p.m., subject to change. Standard event admission specifically excludes access to the coaster.

Express had represented the middle path: more expensive than General Admission, but far less elaborate than committing to a full guided R.I.P. Tour. If Express remains unavailable through the main checkout, that middle path effectively disappears from the visible booking process. Guests who want haunted-house line-skipping and access to Universal's newest coaster may find only the more expensive tour presented to them.

That's the practical consequence — not that Halloween Horror Nights has eliminated every way to skip lines, but that visitors may temporarily have fewer ways to purchase the experience they were expecting.

A Separate, Confirmed Express Change Has Already Happened in Orlando

The uncertainty in Hollywood is especially noteworthy because Universal recently made a separate, confirmed Express change in Florida. Universal Orlando discontinued Express-inclusive versions of its multi-night Fear Passes for Halloween Horror Nights 35, affecting Rush of Fear, Frequent Fear, Frequent Fear Plus, and Ultimate Frequent Fear products. That Orlando decision did not eliminate single-night Express, and it does not establish that Hollywood is following the same strategy.

Still, the two developments make careful wording essential. One resort confirmed the retirement of specific multi-night bundles. The other currently has Express missing from a purchase route while continuing to advertise it elsewhere. Those are not the same story.

What HHN Hollywood Guests Should Do Right Now

Halloween Horror Nights runs at Universal Studios Hollywood on select nights from September 3 through November 1, 2026. Guests should not assume Express is permanently unavailable, nor should they purchase an R.I.P. Tour under the assumption that Universal has officially identified it as the only remaining line-skipping option.

• Check multiple dates on Universal's official HHN ticket listings.
• Contact the resort directly before changing an existing vacation plan.
• If Hollywood Drift is a priority, keep in mind that technical rehearsals do not guarantee the coaster will be operating during your visit.

The missing Express options deserve attention because they affect money, time, and access to 2026's defining new attraction. Until Universal clarifies the situation, however, the mystery belongs to the checkout screen — not the cancellation column.
