Halloween Horror Nights veterans know the struggle: 10 haunted houses, one night, and a clock that never seems to be on your side. For Halloween Horror Nights 35 at Universal Studios Florida, Universal Orlando Resort is giving some guests a serious head start — with select haunted houses opening as early as 2 p.m.

Stay & Scream Is Back, and It's Better Than Ever

Stay & Scream is returning for HHN 35, and Universal has made some meaningful updates to how the program works. The experience bridges the gap between a regular daytime visit to Universal Studios Florida and the start of Halloween Horror Nights, allowing eligible guests to remain inside the park rather than exiting and waiting to reenter for the evening event.

For HHN 35, that advantage is especially significant. Select haunted houses will begin welcoming Stay & Scream guests at 2 p.m. — a full four and a half hours before Halloween Horror Nights officially kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Not every house will open at once, though. Universal is using a staggered schedule throughout the afternoon.

Who Qualifies for Stay & Scream?

Stay & Scream isn't automatically included with a Halloween Horror Nights ticket. To participate, guests need two things: valid daytime admission to Universal Studios Florida and valid Halloween Horror Nights admission for that same evening.

Universal Orlando Annual and Seasonal Passholders who also hold valid HHN admission are eligible. Guests with a single-day or multi-day Universal Studios Florida ticket can also take advantage of Stay & Scream, as long as they have HHN admission for that night.

Scream Early Tickets Now Start at 2 P.M., Too

For guests who don't otherwise have daytime park admission, Universal's Scream Early ticket offers another path in. This add-on allows guests to enter Universal Studios Florida beginning at 2 p.m. — an hour earlier than the previous 3 p.m. entry time.

The Scream Early ticket starts at $70 per person and must be paired with valid same-day Halloween Horror Nights admission. That extra hour could make a real difference for guests who want to maximize their HHN night without purchasing a full daytime park ticket. Rather than arriving just before the event begins and joining the crowds at the entrance, Scream Early guests can already be inside the park when early haunted house access gets underway.

The Wristband System Is Continuing — With an Easier Pickup Option

Longtime HHN fans may remember when Stay & Scream meant waiting inside designated holding areas while Universal transitioned the park from daytime to Halloween Horror Nights mode. That changed in 2025, when Universal introduced a wristband system that allowed eligible guests to move freely around the park rather than staying confined to holding areas. That system is continuing for HHN 35.

Guests participating in Stay & Scream will need a wristband to enter haunted houses that begin operating before the event's official 6:30 p.m. opening. And this year, picking one up is more convenient than ever.

Universal will begin distributing Stay & Scream wristbands near Guest Services when Universal Studios Florida opens for the day. Then, starting at 2 p.m., two additional in-park distribution locations will open: Hogwarts Express: King's Cross Station and Illumination's Villain-Con Minion Blast. For guests already spending the day at the park, grabbing a wristband early removes one more task from the afternoon rush.

Three Haunted Houses Open at 2 P.M. — Here's the Full Timeline

Universal's current schedule calls for three haunted houses to open at 2 p.m., meaning eligible guests could potentially complete several houses before Halloween Horror Nights even officially starts. From there, the afternoon unfolds in stages:

  • 2 p.m.: Three haunted houses open.
  • 4 p.m.: Queues for select additional houses open. (Note: queues opening does not mean those houses will immediately begin operating.)
  • 5:15 p.m.: More haunted houses begin opening.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Halloween Horror Nights officially begins with all 10 houses open.

Universal hasn't announced which specific haunted houses will fall into each opening window. Guests should check the Universal Orlando app during their visit for current opening times.

A Little Flexibility Goes a Long Way

That staggered schedule is worth keeping in mind when planning the afternoon. A queue opening at 4 p.m. doesn't necessarily mean guests can walk straight through — Universal may allow guests to begin lining up before the house itself starts operating. There's also no guarantee that any particular must-do house will be among the first three available at 2 p.m.

Guests set on one specific house may want to wait for its queue to open. Those trying to knock out as many houses as possible may have better luck focusing on whichever houses Universal opens first. The best strategy could also shift from night to night depending on crowds, wait times, and operations.

What's Coming to Halloween Horror Nights 35

HHN 35 runs on select nights from August 28 through November 1, 2026, at Universal Studios Florida. This year's lineup features 10 haunted houses: Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control, Sinners, Stranger Things, Hellraiser, Evil Dead Burn, Cybergoria, H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular!, INVASION: Alien Abduction, MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals, and Ozzy Osbourne.

The event's overarching theme is the "Infernal Carnival of Nightmares," with Jack and Oddfellow playing central roles. Those two familiar HHN characters will appear in the Infernal Carnival of Nightmares scare zone, alongside other announced scare zones including Sideshow of Decay and Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

Beyond the haunted houses, HHN 35 will also feature a Stranger Things lagoon show and the return of Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir, featuring sword swallower Auzzy Blood. Completing several haunted houses before 6:30 p.m. could free up valuable nighttime hours for scare zones, entertainment, food, drinks, and repeat visits to favorite houses — rather than spending the entire night moving from one long queue to the next.

The Bottom Line for HHN 35 Planning

The biggest takeaway for Stay & Scream guests this year is simple: don't treat 6:30 p.m. as the start of your night. With three houses scheduled to open at 2 p.m., additional queues beginning to accept guests at 4 p.m., more houses opening around 5:15 p.m., and the full event launching at 6:30 p.m., the afternoon could become a meaningful part of an HHN night rather than just a waiting period.

There are still some unknowns — Universal hasn't revealed which houses will open during each early-access window, and actual operations can always change. But for eligible visitors, Halloween Horror Nights 35 could effectively start at 2 p.m.
