For a while, it felt like Disney+ was delivering new Star Wars content almost constantly. Live-action series, spin-offs, and fresh characters kept arriving in a steady stream, making the streaming service the franchise's primary home between theatrical releases. But that era of abundance appears to be winding down.

After several projects struggled to generate the response Lucasfilm was hoping for, the approach seems to be shifting toward something far more measured. And as things stand right now, 2027's live-action Star Wars lineup on Disney+ comes down to just one series.

Ahsoka Season 2 Is the One

Ahsoka Season 2 is officially heading to Disney+ in 2027 — nearly four years after the first season wrapped up in October 2023. The series follows Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's former apprentice, who made her live-action debut through The Mandalorian before Rosario Dawson brought her into her own Disney+ series.

Season 2 will see Dawson return alongside Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Lars Mikkelsen, Eman Esfandi, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Hayden Christensen. That's a strong ensemble, and fans who've been waiting since 2023 will finally get to see where the story goes next.

Ahsoka's return comes on the heels of a fairly busy 2026 for the franchise. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord arrived on Disney+ in April, The Mandalorian & Grogu brought Star Wars back to theaters in May, and the animated Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi followed on Disney+ in August. From here, though, the calendar thins out considerably.

A Dramatic Contrast With the Earlier Disney+ Era

It wasn't long ago that Disney+ had a robust pipeline of live-action Star Wars programming. The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew all contributed to a steady flow of content. The contrast with 2027's current lineup — just Ahsoka Season 2 — is striking.

There are some clear reasons Lucasfilm may be taking a more cautious approach. The Mandalorian & Grogu didn't deliver the theatrical comeback some may have anticipated, grossing around $345.2 million worldwide — making it the lowest-grossing live-action Star Wars film. On the streaming side, The Acolyte generated significant early interest but saw a steep audience decline during its run, and Disney ultimately chose not to move forward with a second season.

Rather than maintaining a constant flow of live-action Star Wars shows, Lucasfilm appears to be moving more deliberately. For now, Ahsoka Season 2 stands alone on the Disney+ live-action side, while Star Wars: Starfighter — directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling — carries the theatrical side of the franchise in 2027.

Disney+ Has Plenty Else to Offer in 2027

A quieter Star Wars slate doesn't mean Disney+ will be short on big programming. Other franchises are already filling out the streaming calendar, with Marvel leading the charge.

• Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 — Charlie Cox continues as Matt Murdock alongside Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk, with the series expected to further expand its connections to Marvel's former Netflix shows, including the return of familiar Defenders characters.
• X-Men '97 — Marvel has already committed to Seasons 3 and 4 of the animated revival, making it one of the more consistent streaming properties on the platform.
• Avengers: Mightiest Friends — This children's animated series brings together younger versions of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Black Panther, expanding Disney+'s Marvel programming for younger audiences.
• Afterlife with Archie — The Archie Comics adaptation, overseen by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, takes familiar characters into a zombie-apocalypse story — something noticeably different from the usual Marvel and Star Wars fare.

That's a solid spread of recognizable properties to fill the streaming calendar without leaning as heavily on Star Wars. Disney+ clearly isn't stepping back from franchise-driven programming — it's simply spreading its biggest releases across several different brands.

A More Selective Chapter for Star Wars on Disney+

None of this signals that Disney has lost interest in Star Wars. The Mandalorian helped establish Disney+ as a destination in the first place, and Lucasfilm quickly built out an expanding lineup of spin-offs and limited series around it. That pace simply hasn't continued.

More announcements could certainly arrive before 2027 gets here. But based on what Lucasfilm has confirmed so far, the era of multiple live-action Star Wars shows constantly moving through Disney+ appears to be behind us. For now, the franchise's entire live-action streaming future rests on the shoulders of one Jedi.
