Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) is now playing in theaters, and it's already making waves — not just for Tom Holland's Peter Parker, but for a major new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film picks up after the events of No Way Home (2021), in which Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) cast a spell that erased the world's memory of Peter Parker — including his girlfriend MJ Watson (Zendaya) and best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon). According to the official Marvel synopsis, Peter is now "fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn't remember him" and comes face to face with "a powerful villain no one can even see."

While much of the conversation surrounding Brand New Day centered on Holland's future as Spider-Man and the introduction of new characters, one casting in particular was kept under wraps for months: Sadie Sink's role. Now that the film is out, we finally know who she's playing.

Sadie Sink Joins the MCU as Jean Grey

Sadie Sink has officially made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Jean Grey — the powerful mutant previously portrayed by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner in Fox's X-Men film franchise.

Janssen first brought the character to life in X-Men (2000), returning for X2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), with later cameo appearances in The Wolverine (2013) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). Sophie Turner then played a younger version of Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Dark Phoenix (2019).

Now, Sadie Sink steps into the role for the MCU era — and fans are understandably excited about what that could mean for the future of mutants in this universe.

What's Next for Jean Grey in the MCU?

Whether Sink will reprise the role in future MCU projects remains to be seen. She is not part of the announced cast for Avengers: Doomsday (2026), despite that film featuring several actors from Fox's X-Men films. That said, Jean Grey's introduction in Brand New Day could open the door for further appearances as Marvel continues building toward the arrival of mutants in the MCU.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. It is the fourth film in the MCU's Spider-Man series, following Homecoming (2017), Far From Home (2019), and No Way Home (2021).
