Get ready to roll the dice, Dreamlight Valley players — Oogie Boogie is coming to town! The Season of Scares update for Disney Dreamlight Valley launches on September 23, 2026, and it is packed with six weeks of Halloween-themed quests, mini-games, and rewards.

Oogie Boogie Arrives in the Valley

The centerpiece of the Season of Scares update is none other than Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, who has cooked up a shady scheme for players to unravel. According to the official developer update, a mysterious mirror will appear inside Scrooge McDuck's Store once the update goes live. Step through it and you'll discover Oogie Boogie's lair, kicking off a series of weekly challenges that slowly reveal his plans for the Valley.

Players who complete the full questline will be able to welcome Oogie Boogie as a new Villager. Jack Skellington's beloved ghostly pup, Zero, will also be available as an exclusive companion reward for those who see it through to the end.

One important detail to keep in mind: players must begin the first Season of Scares quest before November 4 to unlock the complete questline. You do not need to finish everything by that date — you simply need to start it. Anyone who misses that deadline will have to wait until the event returns next year to add Oogie Boogie to their Valley.

Oogie Boogie was among several characters teased for Disney Dreamlight Valley during the "Your Dream, Your Valley" panel at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in August.

Halloween Star Path, Premium Shop, and Limited-Time Events

Alongside the main questline, a new Haunting Elegance Star Path will launch with the update. Its rewards include bewitching clothing, Halloween decorations, and dark, whimsical furniture to give your home and Valley a full seasonal makeover.

The Premium Shop is also getting into the Halloween spirit with a range of new offerings, including:

  • A Vampire Costume Dream Style for Stitch
  • The Sinister Bridge Set
  • A companion bundle featuring Lucifer from Cinderella
  • New magical outfits, furniture, and companions

Two limited-time events will also take place during the spooky season. The Haunted Floating Festival returns from October 7 through October 31, and the Trick-or-Treat event runs from October 14 through October 31, featuring new candy-collecting activities and exclusive rewards.

A First for Dreamlight Valley: 'Once Upon a Time' Content

In a genuinely exciting first for the game, the Season of Scares update will introduce a Little Red Riding Hood outfit and matching wolf companion specifically inspired by ABC's Once Upon a Time. This marks the very first time Disney Dreamlight Valley has introduced content based on the live-action fantasy television series.

Scrooge's Store Gets a Makeover

In addition to housing the mysterious portal to Oogie Boogie's lair, Scrooge McDuck's Store will receive its first complete remodel since Disney Dreamlight Valley launched. The familiar shop will have an entirely refreshed appearance for the Halloween season, giving one of the Valley's most frequently visited buildings its first-ever seasonal overlay.

The default player house is also getting a new exterior skin — one that notably stays close to the default architectural style, making it a unique addition compared to most house skins, which tend to transform players' homes into entirely new structures.

Quality-of-Life Improvements

Season of Scares isn't just about scares and costumes — it's also bringing several quality-of-life improvements focused on decorating and managing the Valley.

  • Preset sharing: Players will be able to share their decorated spaces with others, making it easier to exchange designs and recreate complete builds without placing every item individually.
  • Biome clearing: A new option will let players quickly clear an entire biome before starting a new layout, saving the time of removing decorations one piece at a time.
  • Event Board: A new board will help players keep track of up to three live events at once.
  • Emote wheel: Players will gain access to an emote wheel, allowing them to perform emotes around Villagers and other players for more ways to interact and pose for photos.
