If you've been following along with the ongoing transformation of Magic Kingdom's most iconic landmark, there's another update worth knowing about. Following the completion of Cinderella Castle's extensive repainting project earlier this summer, crews have now shifted their focus to the Cinderella Castle Forecourt Stage — the performance venue situated directly in front of the castle — where refurbishment and repainting work is now underway, per WDWNT.
A Castle Refresh, From Spires to Moat
To understand the full picture, it helps to look back at the months-long overhaul that preceded this latest phase. Earlier this year, Disney drained the castle moat to give construction crews access to the lower portions of Cinderella Castle. Guests watched as cranes, lifts, and scaffolding surrounded sections of the structure while Imagineers worked their way from the tallest spires all the way down to the rockwork at the castle's base.
The result was a refreshed color palette featuring soft gray stonework, cream accents, vibrant blue rooftops, and gold detailing — a look designed to evoke the castle's original appearance while enhancing its architectural details. This updated palette moved away from the rose-pink tones that had debuted during Cinderella's 70th anniversary celebration in 2020 and carried through Disney World's 50th anniversary period.
Even after the repainting was largely complete, one visible reminder of the project lingered: the empty moat surrounding the castle. Disney began refilling the waterway in early June, pumping millions of gallons of water back in over several days. Once complete, the iconic reflection of Cinderella Castle returned — officially marking the end of the landmark refurbishment and restoring one of Magic Kingdom's most recognizable views.
Now It's the Stage's Turn
Construction signs have appeared once again around the Forecourt Stage, but guests shouldn't worry — this is not another large-scale castle overhaul. The current work appears to be cosmetic in nature, with no indication of structural changes. Rather, the project seems intended to ensure the performance area complements the castle's freshly updated look after its extensive makeover.
The Forecourt Stage has seen years of daily use as the home of character performances, seasonal entertainment, and special event productions, so a refresh makes perfect sense as the finishing touch to the broader castle complex update.
What This Means for Your Visit
For guests heading to Magic Kingdom, the impact is minimal. Pathways around the Central Plaza remain open, and Cinderella Castle continues to serve as the backdrop for daytime entertainment, nighttime spectaculars like Happily Ever After, and countless vacation photos.
Once the Forecourt Stage work wraps up, the entire castle complex — from its towering spires and surrounding moat to the stage where so many beloved live performances take place — will have received a refreshed look, giving Walt Disney World visitors a fully renewed version of Magic Kingdom's most photographed location.
