If you're planning a Walt Disney World trip during August, September, or October, get ready for some meaningful shifts in Magic Kingdom's hours and entertainment lineup. Halloween arrived at the resort while Central Florida was still firmly in summer mode — pumpkins returned to Main Street, U.S.A., seasonal merchandise filled the shops, and Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party kicked off its 2026 season on August 7. But alongside all that festive fun came a less decorative change: Magic Kingdom is now operating two distinctly different kinds of park days.
Two Very Different Kinds of Magic Kingdom Days
On the 38 nights hosting Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, regular Magic Kingdom hours end at 6 p.m. Guests without a separate party ticket must leave before the event begins at 7 p.m. Those dates also exclude the park's standard nighttime entertainment, meaning regular daytime visitors will not see Happily Ever After or Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away on those evenings.
That makes choosing the right Magic Kingdom date considerably more important than simply checking which day fits between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.
Magic Kingdom Opens Earlier — But the Regular Day Still Ends at 6 P.M.
Disney's official calendar listed Magic Kingdom operating from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on August 7, with Early Entry beginning at 7:30 a.m. for guests of Disney Resort hotels and other participating properties. The published schedule continues that 8 a.m. opening through the first stretch of party dates through August 21. Later Halloween party dates still show 9 a.m. openings in the rolling calendar, though Disney can revise operating hours as each date approaches.
That distinction matters. An 8 a.m. opening partly compensates for losing the evening, but visitors should not assume every later party date will receive the same early start until Disney officially posts it. A 9 a.m. time appearing months ahead is a working schedule, not a guarantee.
The 6 p.m. closing, however, is not tentative. Disney's 2026 Halloween party schedule lists 38 events between August 7 and October 31. Party admission is separate from regular park admission, and ticket holders can enter Magic Kingdom beginning at 4 p.m. before the event runs from 7 p.m. to midnight.
Fireworks and Disney Starlight Require a Non-Party Date
A regular Magic Kingdom ticket does not include the Halloween party's evening entertainment. When daytime operations end, Disney transitions to Mickey's Boo-to-You Halloween Parade and Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular — both reserved exclusively for party guests.
Happily Ever After and Disney Starlight therefore remain tied to eligible non-party evenings. Disney's opening-week calendar showed both absent on August 7, while listing Happily Ever After at 10 p.m. and Disney Starlight at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on surrounding regular nights. It's also worth noting that Disney is moving Happily Ever After to 9:30 p.m. on scheduled nights beginning August 31, adding another timing change to late-summer itineraries.
Visitors hoping to experience those productions should build their Magic Kingdom day around the entertainment calendar — not merely the park's closing time. Concentrating the standard parade and fireworks on fewer evenings can also increase demand for viewing space on those dates, so guests prioritizing both shows should arrive early and claim a good spot well before showtime.
The alternative is a party-date visit focused on attractions. Guests willing to skip the regular nighttime spectaculars can take advantage of the earlier morning opening and leave at 6 p.m., potentially preserving the evening for another park, Disney Springs, or a resort dinner.
Extended Evening Hours Are Moving Too
Deluxe Resort guests have another calendar to keep an eye on. Magic Kingdom remains scheduled to host Extended Evening Hours on select Wednesdays through August 19. Disney then moves the benefit to Animal Kingdom on August 26 and September 2, according to its published calendar.
Disney's official Extended Evening Hours eligibility page confirms that the benefit is limited to Disney Deluxe Resorts, Deluxe Villa Resorts, and several participating hotels, and that the park, date, hours, and available attractions can change. Additional fall dates have also placed the benefit at Hollywood Studios rather than Magic Kingdom, further reducing the wisdom of assuming a Deluxe stay automatically includes a late Magic Kingdom night.
The Pattern Returns for Christmas
The Halloween parties end October 31, but Magic Kingdom's split schedule won't disappear for long. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party begins November 8 and runs on 25 select nights through December 22. Like the Halloween event, it operates from 7 p.m. until midnight and permits party-ticket holders to enter at 4 p.m.
Disney Starlight will continue on non-party evenings during the holiday season but will step aside for Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade on Christmas party nights — extending the same basic planning choice all the way into December.
The Bottom Line: Check the Calendar Before You Go
The practical rule is simple: check Disney's calendar again shortly before visiting. During party season, choosing the wrong Magic Kingdom date can mean losing five evening hours — or arriving expecting fireworks that require a different ticket entirely. A little extra planning now goes a long way toward making the most of every magical moment.
