Great news for Disney's Hollywood Studios guests: the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge is officially back open, and it returned with some very noticeable improvements. After more than two months behind construction walls, the outdoor patio is once again welcoming guests — this time underneath a brand-new covered structure designed to make the space far more comfortable year-round.

What Happened to the Lounge?

Construction on the outdoor lounge kicked off on June 29, temporarily taking the popular patio out of service while crews got to work. During that time, the walk-up bar operation moved to the former Starring Rolls location as changes were made around The Hollywood Brown Derby. The main indoor dining room, it's worth noting, remained open throughout the entire project — only the outdoor lounge area was affected.

Early on, signs pointed toward a permanent covering being added over the seating area. By July 17, new support columns and concrete footings had been installed, making it clear this would be a substantial structure — not just a few umbrellas or a temporary fix. Work continued through August, and by September 1, the new awning, ceiling fans, and decorative lanterns were largely in place. Still, construction barriers kept guests out a little longer while crews put the finishing touches on everything.

That wait is now over. The barriers are gone, the tables are back, and guests are already dining underneath the completed structure.

The Biggest Change: A Large Covered Structure

The most immediately obvious upgrade is the new roof over the patio. Previously, the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge offered outdoor seating that was considerably more exposed to the elements — a real challenge at Walt Disney World, where Central Florida heat, intense sunshine, and afternoon thunderstorms can turn outdoor dining into something of a gamble.

Disney has now given the patio considerably more protection. A large red awning stretches across the outdoor dining area, providing full coverage over most of the tables below. Importantly, the design fits naturally with the existing Hollywood Brown Derby building — the red covering matches the canopy near the restaurant's entrance, helping the new construction blend seamlessly into the established look of the space. Rather than appearing as a tacked-on addition, the structure looks like it belongs there.

Ceiling Fans and Decorative Lanterns Round Out the Upgrades

Shade is the most noticeable improvement, but guests will likely appreciate another addition just as much: ceiling fans. Anyone who has visited Walt Disney World during the warmer months knows how important airflow can be. Even out of direct sunlight, Florida humidity can make an outdoor meal uncomfortable. The ceiling fans installed underneath the new structure should help keep air moving throughout the patio while guests eat or stop for drinks.

Lantern-style light fixtures with decorative scrollwork have also been added underneath the awning, complementing the other design elements around The Hollywood Brown Derby. Taken together, these changes make the area feel like a permanent outdoor extension of the restaurant rather than an uncovered collection of tables along the walkway.

A Familiar Hollywood Look — With More Comfort

The completed seating area features round tables covered with white tablecloths. Disney has used a mix of seating styles throughout the patio: black metal chairs along the outer portion of the space, and red leather chairs with decorative metal frames closer to the center. Those red chairs work particularly well with the new awning overhead, keeping the classic Hollywood atmosphere very much intact.

For guests who prefer the open air, there is even one table outside the primary covered area. For everyone else, the new setup means outdoor dining without worrying quite as much about direct sunlight or a sudden Florida shower interrupting the meal.

A Great People-Watching Spot, Now Even Better

Part of what has always made the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge appealing is its location. The seating area sits directly beside a busy pedestrian walkway inside Disney's Hollywood Studios, giving guests a front-row seat to all the park activity without committing to the full indoor dining experience. That hasn't changed with the renovation — guests are once again seated just off the walkway, making the reopened patio a convenient and relaxed people-watching destination.

The difference now is that they can enjoy it all beneath a large covered structure, with ceiling fans keeping things comfortable. That could become especially appealing as temperatures begin cooling later in the year, giving guests another comfortable outdoor option to slow down before heading back into the park.

More Than Two Months in the Making

Looking back at the timeline shows just how much work went into what might initially have seemed like a straightforward patio project. Construction started June 29. By July 17, support columns and concrete footings were taking shape. Work continued through August, and by September 1, the awning, ceiling fans, and lanterns were largely installed — though barriers remained as crews finished up. Just days later, those barriers disappeared and guests returned.

From start to finish, the project took a little more than two months. The result isn't a completely redesigned restaurant or a flashy new attraction, but it is exactly the kind of practical improvement that guests will notice during an actual day at the park.

The Lounge Is Back — and Better Than Before

The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge reopening comes at a great time for guests heading into the fall season at Walt Disney World. Instead of simply restoring the previous outdoor setup, Disney used the closure to make the patio more functional throughout the year. The new awning provides extensive shade and weather protection, the ceiling fans help on warmer days, and the decorative lanterns and coordinated furniture keep the classic Hollywood feel alive.

After spending the summer behind construction walls, the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge patio is officially serving guests once more — and the finished version looks much better equipped to handle everything Florida weather can throw at it.
