A former Walt Disney World Resort cast member is facing serious legal consequences after authorities say she allegedly stole 100 items worth more than $2,100 from the World of Disney store at Disney Springs — and then attempted to evade detection by changing her appearance.

What Happened at World of Disney

On June 12, the Orange County Sheriff's Office responded to a report that 28-year-old Cynthia Elizabeth Molina had allegedly stolen 100 items from World of Disney, valued at $2,193. According to the incident report, a World of Disney cast member first spotted Molina near a jewelry display carrying "a large reusable bag," reportedly "ripping locked up bracelets off the hooks and placing them in her 'already very full bag.'"

Following company policy, that cast member alerted a manager, and the two began keeping an eye on Molina as she moved through the store. The manager eventually approached her, "touched her right arm (which was holding the bag) and advised how she needed to pay for the merchandise." Surveillance footage from inside the store showed the manager "lightly [tapping] the back of her right arm (the same side holding the unpaid merchandise)," while Molina was seen "brushing off his hand despite him being in Disney uniform, with badge and credentials being worn."

Molina reportedly pushed the manager and "shrugged him off as she left the store." The World of Disney manager then contacted Walt Disney World Resort security.

The Disguise Attempt

When Molina walked out of World of Disney, she was wearing a Toy Story (1995) shirt. She then made her way to Raglan Road, an Irish pub at Disney Springs, and later emerged wearing a different shirt with her hair up in a bun. The wardrobe swap didn't fool anyone, however — both World of Disney employees who had interacted with her identified Molina as the same person who had been carrying the large reusable bag full of stolen merchandise.

When confronted by authorities, Molina declined to answer questions. She requested the security camera footage from World of Disney, claiming that the manager had touched her first.

Inside Molina's reusable bag, authorities found "Mickey Mouse plush, pencils in a variety of colors, various stationery pouches, jewelry consisting of bracelets and necklaces and other trinkets, phone straps and additional Walt Disney World miscellaneous items."

Arrest, Charges, and a Notable Detail

Molina was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail, where she was charged with grand theft in the third degree and robbery. The Orange County Sheriff's Office also released her mugshot from her June 12 arrest.

One detail in the incident report stands out: Molina was not just any visitor to Disney Springs. As an Orange County Sheriff's Office deputy noted in the report:

"Let it be known Cynthia was a prior cast member at Disney's Animal Kingdom. She worked in retail and was familiar with Disney's policy concerning retail procedures, and more importantly theft as well as the uniforms worn by cast members and leads/supervisors."

Cynthia Elizabeth Molina has since pleaded not guilty to both the grand theft and robbery charges stemming from the June 12 incident at Disney Springs.
