Construction is moving right along at Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift at Universal Studios Florida, with a new structure now rising around the track — apparently set to become an enclosed ride scene.

What's Going Up?

Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift is replacing the beloved Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. The bulk of the coaster sits on a large site near the CityWalk lagoon, though the track extends down the side of the park as well.

New structural steel has been installed around the track near the loading building. Coaster cars will exit the building and turn into this newly framed area, which is expected to serve as the first scene of the ride before guests launch along a switch track.

Soaring Over the Music Plaza Stage

One of the more exciting details: cars heading in and out of the load area will pass behind the Universal Music Plaza stage in a large arc — but from the stage viewing area, riders will appear to be soaring right over it. Track installation in that section is still ongoing, with several gaps remaining and some supports still awaiting placement behind the stage.

More Construction Details

A staging area near Epic Universe is holding additional track pieces and supports yet to be installed. An inversion is also in development over two other stretches of track, and a switch track for the ride's 170-foot tall spike is visible at the bottom left of aerial construction photos.

One fun bit of theme park history is still visible on-site: a mural left over from Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit can be spotted on the back of a building. It will presumably be painted over once theming is added to the new attraction.

The track above the loading area is designated for cars returning to the load station.
