Magic Kingdom is in the middle of one of the most ambitious transformation periods in Walt Disney World's history, and the changes extend well beyond the park's gates. Cinderella Castle has a fresh new look, Frontierland is being reshaped around Piston Peak National Park (built around Pixar's Cars franchise, with the Rivers of America drained to make room), and crews are already laying groundwork for the highly anticipated Villains Land. On top of all that, a brand-new resort is taking shape on Bay Lake — and it just got a subtle but meaningful name update.
A Name That Now Fits the Family
The upcoming lodge, set to open in the Magic Kingdom Resort area, was previously known as Disney Lakeshore Lodge. It's now officially going by Disney's Lakeshore Lodge — one small possessive apostrophe that makes a real difference. This is actually the second name shift for the project: when Disney first announced plans to build on the former site of Disney's River Country, the resort was called Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge.
The updated name brings the resort in line with the naming convention Disney uses across its other Magic Kingdom-area hotels — Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort, and Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa all lead with that familiar possessive. Next to those, "Disney Lakeshore Lodge" always looked slightly out of step.
The name change surfaced through a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office filing. Filed on August 11, 2026, under U.S. Serial Number 50043700, the application covered the mark "DISNEY'S LAKESHORE LODGE" as a standard character mark — meaning Disney wasn't claiming any particular typeface, color, or design. It was listed on the Principal Register as a service mark. At the time of the filing, the application had met minimum requirements but had not yet been assigned to an examining attorney, meaning it was active and valid but awaiting review. For a hospitality brand heading toward an opening day, this kind of trademark filing is entirely routine.
Construction Is Moving Fast
Theme park photographer Bioreconstruct recently shared a series of aerial images taken on September 19, 2026, and the progress is striking. The photos, captured from 3,500 feet, show the resort's overall footprint taking clear shape, along with a closer look at pool construction — including areas identified as The Wetlands and Cypress Point.

Disney's Lakeshore Lodge is confirmed to open on July 1, 2027.
What Guests Can Look Forward To
Disney's Lakeshore Lodge will offer 967 rooms, with accommodations ranging from compact studios to newly introduced one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses situated right along the shoreline. The resort's design draws from Walt Disney's personal love of nature, and Imagineers have woven in references to Bambi, Pocahontas, and Brother Bear throughout the property.
The lobby sets the tone immediately: a fiberoptic "river" runs through the floor, and a blown-glass sculpture inspired by "Colors of the Wind" serves as a centerpiece. It's the kind of immersive detail Disney resort fans have come to love.
Dining
- Moonglade — The resort's table-service restaurant, offering meals with views across the water.
- Bay Lake Provisions — A quick-service option for guests on the go.
- Paint Out Point Bar & Grill — A poolside menu inspired by the tradition of painting outdoors.
- Dandelion Terrace — An evening lounge with an unobstructed view of Magic Kingdom's fireworks, surrounded by archival artwork from Fantasia.
Recreation
The main recreation hub is The Wetlands, which includes Lakeshore Lagoon (a zero-entry pool with a spiral waterslide), Daydream River (a lazy river), and themed play areas called Heron Shores and Otter Springs. Guests looking for a quieter experience can head to Cypress Point, a secondary pool that also offers a fireworks view.
A Little Mystery Built In
There's one intriguing detail tucked into the resort's nature trail: a plaque will pay tribute to a "beloved historic attraction" that once stood on the land. Disney hasn't revealed which attraction it honors. With Imagineers continuing to share updates through the "Letters from Lakeshore" series, more answers may be on the way.
