The original Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Park is officially closed — but don't worry, foolish mortals, it won't be gone for long. The iconic New Orleans Square attraction shut its iron gates on Wednesday, August 12, as crews prepare to install the beloved annual Nightmare Before Christmas-themed overlay for the Halloween and Christmastime season.
The Mansion Goes Dark
The Disneyland Resort website confirms the closure as of August 12, with the park's operational calendar currently running through September 24, 2026 — and the Haunted Mansion not listed as reopening before that date. The site encourages guests to "check back" for updates. However, a sign posted at the attraction's entrance offers a clearer picture of what's to come.
On Wednesday, WDW News Today shared a photo on Facebook showing the Haunted Mansion entrance blocked by metal barricades, with the iron gate firmly closed behind them. A sign on that gate, featuring Jack Skellington in his Sandy Claws outfit, reads:
"Sandy Claws is busy decking these haunted halls.
Please join us for a frightfully good time after August 21.
Season's screamings!"
Metal barriers are also in place at the ride exit and a nearby stairway. Signs along scrim-covered fences around the attraction add:
"The Haunted Mansion is unavailable while our silly spooks are out living it up!
Please visit other spirited attractions in New Orleans Square."
Haunted Mansion Holiday Returns August 21
The Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) overlay — known as Haunted Mansion Holiday — will take over the attraction beginning August 21, running through the Halloween and Christmastime season. The ride is expected to close again sometime in January 2027, though Disneyland Resort has not confirmed an exact end date.
This beloved seasonal tradition has been a fixture at Disneyland Park since 2001. Tokyo Disneyland joined in the fun in 2004, when Tokyo Disney Resort began installing its own version of the Haunted Mansion Holiday.
