In an effort to reduce line-cutting and the conflicts it can spark, Disneyland Resort has begun testing a paper ticket system for guests hoping to purchase the weekly Tuesday pin drops.
New Disney Trading Pins, Every Tuesday
Each Tuesday, Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and the Disney Store release a fresh batch of open-edition, limited-edition, and limited-release Disney Trading Pins. The most popular styles sell out within minutes — both online and in stores. While snagging pins online tends to be a relatively smooth experience, in-person releases at shops throughout the Disney parks on both coasts have seen their share of chaos.
Much like the recent worldwide Lorcana trading card game release, dedicated collectors line up in the early morning hours for each weekly pin drop. While most guests simply want to pick up a pin or two for themselves and play by the rules, some resellers and less considerate shoppers have resorted to line-cutting or spot-saving — leading to verbal and sometimes physical conflicts with fellow guests. Now, Disneyland Resort is working to stop that conflict before it starts.
How the New Queue System Works
On Tuesday, August 4, guests arriving at Disneyland Resort discovered that Cast Members were handing out paper tickets to anyone hoping to purchase the new Disney Trading Pins. WDWNT shared a photo of the slips, which list the store name — in this case, Westward Ho Trading Company — and the date.
Disneyland Resort appears to be testing this system at merchandise locations across Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and the Downtown Disney District. Cast Members hand one ticket to each person waiting in line. When guests reach the register to make their purchase, they must turn in their ticket — meaning anyone who joined the line late by cutting or spot-saving simply wouldn't have one.
According to WDWNT, Cast Members explained that Disneyland Resort is currently planning to use this ticketing system whenever pins inspired by the video game Kingdom Hearts are released. However, it could also be used during other Tuesday drops in the future.
It's a straightforward solution to a frustrating problem, and one that should help ensure that the guests who show up early and wait patiently are the ones who get to bring home their favorite new pins.
