For more than a decade, Walt Disney Studios found enormous success by reimagining beloved animated classics as live-action films. Hits like Beauty and the Beast (2017), Aladdin (2019), and The Lion King (2019) proved that audiences had a strong appetite for these star-studded, visually updated retellings — and the box office billions backed that up.
But according to a report from Inside the Magic, that winning formula has hit some turbulence. Following a series of box office underperformers, Disney is now confirming a significant shift in how it approaches this once-reliable strategy.
What that new blueprint looks like remains to be seen, but it's clear the Mouse House is taking a hard look at what comes next for its live-action slate.
