A few days ago, we reported that Disney World was replacing the iconic cast member costumes for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party with something considerably more subdued. At that point, the information came from a costume reference sheet posted to the Hub — Disney's internal cast member site — that had made its way online. We had a preview image, two labeled looks, and a wave of former cast members saying the old costumes were the entire reason they picked up party shifts.

What we didn't have was anyone seeing them in person.

That changed on August 7, 2026, when the first Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party of the season took place at Magic Kingdom. Guests finally got a look at the new costumes — in daylight and after dark. They have opinions.

What the New Costumes Actually Look Like

Now that they're out in the world, here's the full picture. There are two styles that are substantially similar. Both feature a short-sleeved black shirt covered in stacked skeletons in shades of red, purple, and green.

One important detail that came up repeatedly: these shirts do not glow in the dark.

The first variant pairs an untucked button-down with dark green shorts. The second features the same patterned shirt tucked into dark green long pants. Both incorporate a collared white shirt as an underlayer. These are gender-neutral costumes, with no dress option for women. The first version can be accessorized with a plain black belt and a bow tie, and there is also a headband accessory that looks like bat wings.

What They Replaced

For anyone who never attended the party in previous years, the old costumes were genuinely distinctive. They combined yellow-and-orange plaid layers over green-and-yellow striped bat shirts, with purple skirts or trousers, plus oversized bat headbands or bow ties. The colors and patterns were purposefully mismatched.

The effect evoked the season, grabbed attention, and felt like a Halloween costume without actually being one. From the moment you spotted the special event turnstiles in the distance, those costumes told you what kind of night it was going to be.
