Things are moving right along at Disney California Adventure! The construction site for the upcoming Coco boat ride has seen some notable new additions, with piping, trench railings, and fresh landscaping all making an appearance at Disneyland Resort.
What's New at the Construction Site
The ride is being built on the west side of Disney California Adventure, nestled between IncrediCoaster and Disneyland Drive. The latest look at the site reveals a large new dirt pile spanning across the area, along with additional landscaping planted along Disneyland Drive. In a previous update, crew members were spotted planting trees and smaller plants to help block the scrim fencing from view — and that greenery continues to grow.
Near the green gates closest to Disneyland Drive, a large pile of gray and white pipes of varying sizes has been placed. Additionally, more yellow railings have been installed along a trench on the upper portion of the site, adding to the infrastructure taking shape behind the scenes.
'Coco' Ride Story Details
While Disney has not yet announced an official name or opening timeframe for the attraction, story details were shared at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. Rather than simply retelling the events of the beloved film, the ride will continue Miguel Rivera's story approximately one year after Coco ends.
With the Rivera family having reconciled with its musical past and Héctor's place in the family's history restored, Miguel can now openly pursue his passion for music. The attraction's setting also allows Héctor to be publicly celebrated as the talented musician he was — before Ernesto de la Cruz stole his songs and claimed credit for his work.
Imagineers are working closely with Pixar Animation Studios to weave in references to both the original film and the upcoming Coco 2.
What do you think of the Coco ride's construction progress so far? We'd love to hear your thoughts!
