Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland has been missing one of its most recognizable attractions for months, but guests now have a much clearer picture of when the wait will end. Disney World has confirmed that Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress is scheduled to reopen in late spring 2027 — the strongest timeline fans have received since the attraction went dark.
More Than a Touch-Up: The Most Extensive Overhaul in the Attraction's History
This is no routine refurbishment. Disney is using the extended closure to carry out what it describes as the most extensive overhaul in the attraction's history — a significant undertaking for a ride with such deep roots in Disney legacy.
One of the most exciting additions will bring Walt Disney himself into the experience. Disney has confirmed that a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic figure will appear in a brand-new introductory scene, creating a direct connection to the man who helped bring the attraction to life for the 1964–1965 New York World's Fair.
Beyond that, Disney is reimagining portions of the attraction's familiar scenes and the decades represented throughout the experience. Carousel of Progress has always followed an American family as technology reshapes everyday life over time, and the overhaul will refresh that journey while keeping its central idea intact. Importantly, Disney isn't replacing the attraction with something entirely new — the company is investing in what already exists while finding ways to introduce it to a new generation of Magic Kingdom visitors.
Carousel of Progress closed on July 6, 2026, meaning the attraction could remain unavailable for nearly a year depending on exactly when Disney chooses to reopen it.
Disney Confirms a Late Spring 2027 Return
For much of the closure, Disney kept the finer details close to the vest. Construction walls and a lengthy downtime made it clear something significant was underway, but guests had little to go on beyond a general 2027 window. The confirmation of late spring 2027 is a meaningful step forward, particularly for families planning Magic Kingdom trips during the first half of the year.
Disney has not yet announced an exact reopening date, so guests shouldn't build a trip around any unofficial estimate. That said, Disney's recent calendar does offer some useful clues about when the attraction might return.
When Could the Carousel Start Turning Again?
The final week of May stands out as a strong possibility. Disney World packed several reopenings, debuts, and new experiences around the end of May 2026, a period that traditionally marks the unofficial start of the summer travel season. A similar strategy in 2027 would allow Carousel of Progress to return just as Magic Kingdom shifts into summer operations — and Disney has used this window before for seasonal offerings like Cool Kid Summer, designed around families arriving once schools let out.
That said, late spring doesn't necessarily mean late May. Disney could interpret the phrase more broadly and reopen the attraction sometime in April, giving it time to settle into normal operations before the heavier summer crowds arrive. March shouldn't be dismissed entirely either — the 2027 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival begins March 10, and Disney could use the start of its spring season to introduce additional offerings across Walt Disney World. However, early March would be on the earlier side of what most guests would consider a late spring reopening.
Based strictly on Disney's announced window, the most likely range stretches from March through the end of May, with April and May fitting the description particularly well.
Tomorrowland Gets One of Its Classics Back
Whenever those rotating theater doors open again, the attraction guests step into will be noticeably different from the one that closed in July 2026. Disney is reshaping parts of the experience, adding a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic to the introduction, and updating the family's journey through the decades — all while preserving what makes Carousel of Progress so special in the first place.
After spending much of 2026 behind construction walls, Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress now has a clearer finish line. Its next great big beautiful tomorrow is on track to arrive before summer 2027 officially begins.
