Planning a Disney World vacation in 2026 means keeping up with more than attraction closures, park hours, and dining reservations. Disney is operating parts of its Florida resort differently this year, and several changes have solidified into new rules. Some introduce fresh restrictions, while others turn previously loose policies into firmly enforced procedures.
The result is the same: things guests could do on previous trips may work differently now. Here's a look at seven new rules affecting transportation, resort perks, Disney Vacation Club, merchandise events, attraction queues, outside services, and Disney Gift Cards.
Disney Springs Transportation Now Comes With an Eligibility Rule
One of the clearest new rules affects transportation leaving Disney Springs. Previously, guests could generally visit Disney Springs and board Disney transportation to a resort hotel. That changed in June 2026.
Guests using buses or boats from Disney Springs to Disney Resort hotels must now meet eligibility requirements — including staying at a Disney hotel or having a qualifying dining or experience reservation at their destination. Cast Members can verify reservations before allowing guests to board. Simply visiting Disney Springs no longer guarantees access to resort-bound transportation.
Overnight Merchandise Lines Are Now Firmly Off the Table
Disney Springs also has a new operating rule for popular merchandise releases. Staying overnight inside a parking structure was already prohibited, but Disney previously did little to physically prevent collectors from arriving extremely early or attempting to remain overnight. That changed in 2026.
Disney Springs parking garages and rideshare loops now remain closed until 7 a.m. on merchandise-release mornings. Guests who arrive too early or attempt to stay overnight can be asked to leave. The overnight restriction isn't technically new, but the firm 7 a.m. access rule changes what guests can actually do.
Resort Guests Now Face a Seasonal Water Park Rule
Another 2026 rule affects Disney Resort guests. Disney introduced complimentary water park admission on a guest's hotel check-in day in 2025, but for 2026, an important restriction was added.
The perk is now limited to qualifying check-in dates from May 26 through September 8, 2026. Arrive during that window, and eligible guests can receive complimentary check-in-day admission to Disney's Typhoon Lagoon or Disney's Blizzard Beach. Arrive outside it, and the perk doesn't apply. Disney hasn't eliminated the benefit — it has simply placed a new seasonal eligibility rule around it.
Disney Vacation Club Members Face Stricter Rental Rules
Disney Vacation Club also received more clearly defined rules in 2026. DVC members can still rent unused points or reservations, but Disney has become more specific about where occasional renting ends and commercial activity begins.
In March 2026, Disney clarified its commercial-use policy and outlined potential consequences for members who repeatedly use their memberships for rental businesses. Disney may restrict banking, borrowing, or transferring points. Members may also lose access to certain online features, and future reservations may be canceled. Occasional rentals remain permitted — the stricter rule targets repeated commercial use.
Outside Businesses Face Tougher Rules on Disney Property
Disney has also strengthened enforcement against outside businesses operating on its property. Unauthorized commercial activity was already prohibited, but Disney stepped up enforcement in January 2026 by issuing cease-and-desist notices to third-party operators working on Disney property without authorization.
For guests, this creates a practical new reality. An outside company that previously met with customers or provided services at a Disney Resort can't assume it can continue to do so. The broader restriction existed before, but Disney now applies it much more aggressively.
Cosmic Rewind Guests Have New Queue Procedures
At EPCOT, guests also face new procedures at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The attraction's pre-show transition has sometimes created crowding as guests move toward the next portion of the queue.
Disney has responded by testing new crowd-control procedures. Cast Members may hold groups, organize guests into lanes, and control when portions of the crowd move forward. There isn't a single date when Disney announced a permanent rule, but the practical requirement is clear: guests need to move when Cast Members direct them, rather than rushing out of the pre-show. It's an operational rule that Disney can continue adjusting as needed.
Disney Gift Cards Now Follow a New App Rule
The final change is a more guest-friendly one. Disney updated My Disney Experience in June to allow eligible Disney Gift Cards to be saved and accessed for future purchases. Previously, guests often had to re-enter their Disney Gift Card information when making purchases, such as mobile food orders. Now, eligible saved cards can remain available for later transactions.
It's different from a transportation or access rule, but it establishes a new way Disney's payment system handles Gift Cards — and for guests who regularly use them, it's one of 2026's more convenient changes.
What These Rules Have in Common
Not all seven rules work the same way. Some restrict access, others establish eligibility, and several turn existing policies into procedures Disney now actively enforces. But each one changes what guests can do, how they access something, or what Disney expects from them compared with previous visits.
Disney World is operating differently in 2026, making it important for guests to understand the rules before arriving. A little preparation could prevent transportation problems, missed perks, merchandise issues, and other unexpected complications during a vacation.
