Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has officially kicked off at Magic Kingdom, bringing back one of Walt Disney World's most popular after-hours events. While plenty of beloved traditions are returning, guests attending this year will notice several updates throughout the park — from fresh entertainment and new treats to different character experiences and merchandise. Here's a closer look at the seven biggest changes for 2026.
What Is Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party?
Held on select nights from August through October 31, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a separately ticketed event at Magic Kingdom. Guests can enter the park as early as 4 p.m., with the party officially running from 7 p.m. until midnight.
The event features exclusive entertainment, trick-or-treat locations throughout the park, special character appearances, limited-time food and merchandise, themed ride overlays, and returning fan favorites like Mickey's Boo-to-You Halloween Parade and Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks. Many guests plan entire vacations around the party, which means even small changes become a major talking point each year.
1. Cast Members Are Wearing New Halloween Costumes
One of the more unexpected changes this year doesn't directly involve guests — but it has generated plenty of conversation online. Disney has introduced new costumes for cast members working the party. Several cast members have shared that they're disappointed to see the previous designs retired, noting that the older costumes had become one of the most enjoyable parts of working the event.
The updated outfits appear to be lighter and better suited for Florida's August heat, which makes practical sense. Even so, many fans and cast members feel the previous costumes had become a meaningful part of the party's identity over the years.
2. Adventureland Gets a New Pirate Show
Adventureland is receiving an entertainment refresh this year with the debut of Captain Jack's Buccaneer Bash. Captain Jack Sparrow leads guests through a lively pirate-themed experience filled with comedy and interactive moments.
In recent years, guests in Adventureland during the party often encountered Rusty Cutlass, the entertaining pirate band that performed throughout the land. Rather than disappearing entirely, those musicians appear to have become part of the new Captain Jack experience, creating a larger pirate-themed offering for the whole area. It gives Adventureland another great reason to slow down and linger during the event.
3. Two New Popcorn Buckets Join the Party
Limited-edition merchandise is always one of the biggest draws at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and this year's popcorn buckets are already generating excitement. Guests can choose between the new Hatbox Ghost Bucket and the Headless Horseman Bucket. Disney has placed a purchase limit of two buckets per person, per transaction, and supplies will only be available while they last each party night.
Event-exclusive popcorn buckets routinely become some of Disney's most sought-after collectibles, so guests hoping to snag one may want to make it a priority early in the evening before inventory runs out.
4. Disney Junior Jam Is Replaced by Destination DescenDANCE Party
Inside Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café, guests will find a notable entertainment change this year. Disney has replaced Disney Junior Jam with Destination DescenDANCE Party, a dance celebration inspired by the Descendants franchise. The experience features music and choreography inspired by popular Disney movies and encourages guests to join in on the dance floor.
Although it's new for 2026, Destination DescenDANCE isn't making its party debut — Disney previously offered the experience in 2024 before shifting to Disney Junior Jam last year. The change also means guests will see much less emphasis on Disney Junior characters than they did during the previous Halloween party season.
5. The Villain Treat Trail Experience Is Expanding
Disney appears ready to build on one of the party's more successful recent additions. For the past two Halloween seasons, Fairytale Hall transformed into a villain-themed treat trail featuring Maleficent and the Evil Queen. The walkthrough experience gave guests candy and let them interact with iconic Disney villains.
This year, Disney has hinted that guests should expect additional villain encounters throughout the treat trails, teasing that familiar — and fiendish — faces will surprise visitors along the way. While Disney hasn't revealed every character yet, the announcement suggests the villain experience will stretch beyond what guests saw in previous years.
6. New Halloween Food Arrives Across the Park
No Disney party would be complete without a lineup of limited-time snacks, and this year's menu introduces several brand-new options. Among the additions are the Hades Cake Pop, Phantom Pecan-Caramel Cheesecake, Headless Horseman Treat, Queen of Hearts Tart, and the Fang-tastic Garlic Butter Burger.
The variety offers guests both sweet and savory choices throughout the evening, continuing Disney's tradition of creating exclusive menu items available only during the Halloween party.
7. Stitch Takes Over Tomorrowland
One of last year's dance parties won't be returning. Disney has replaced Zom-Beatz Bash with Stitch's Masquerade Mashup at Rockettower Plaza Stage in Tomorrowland. The updated experience brings Stitch, Lilo, and Angel together for a Halloween-themed dance party featuring masquerade-inspired music and entertainment.
The switch also helps balance this year's overall entertainment lineup. Since Disney Junior Jam has been replaced with the Descendants-inspired dance party, adding familiar characters like Stitch and Lilo gives families another character-focused experience to enjoy during the evening.
A Different Halloween Party Awaits
Between returning favorites and these seven updates, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has plenty for returning guests to discover. Some longtime traditions have been replaced, others have evolved, and several entirely new experiences have joined the lineup. As the first party gets underway, it won't take long for guests to decide which of these additions becomes a new Halloween favorite at Magic Kingdom.
